For nearly 10 years now, I've lived and worked in Arizona, where the desert offers both quiet and space for making art. Yet Pittsburgh remains deeply embedded in me. It's where I was born, where I grew up, where I worked for most of my career and where I became a mom raising my two sons. It's where many of the people I love still live.

This collection of work in “Between Here & There” explores duality and connection—not only between places, but between opposing truths that often exist at the same time.

Built through layers of paint, collage, mark-making, revision, and discovery, each of my paintings unfolds in its own time, revealing fragments of memory, loss, place, interaction and imagination.

Created primarily in Arizona, with some work developed during a residency in Pittsburgh’s Radiant Hall, Lawrenceville, these paintings exist in conversation with both places. A small series of works draws inspiration from Pittsburgh’s bridges and architecture, while others emerge from personal histories, observations, questions, and experiences that continue to evolve over time.

My mother, an artist and poet who passed away 2 years ago at nearly 98 years old, remains one of the deepest influences on my creative life. Painting later in life, she also published a collection of poetry called “Variations” in her nineties. Her gifts—her curiosity, persistence, and artistic spirit—continue to inspire me today. My mother “taught me to see rainbows.”

My hope is that this collection of paintings invites viewers to find their own points of connection—to memories, to places, to one another, and to the enduring ties and tensions that shape who we are, as we grapple with where we come from, where we are, and where we are still becoming.

Each piece in Between Here & There will be available for purchase online throughout the duration of the show. Everything will remain on view at Commonplace Coffee through the week of week of October 26–31. When you purchase work(s) from the show, you'll be “reserving it” until that week, when you can 1) either pick it up at the coffee shop (we'll coordinate a time together) or 2) arrange with me to have it shipped to you that week.
